What are the files that end with .mgspot for? Are they my recipes?

These files are not your recipes. They are files created to enable Spotlight to search for information in your database file. These files, if deleted, will be recreated when MacGourmet Deluxe is started, so unlike your database file, which should be backed up, these files don't need to be archived to protect your data.
