Is there no copy style/paste style? Do I really have to create and apply styles even for simple documents. You have copy/paste rulers. 

You are missing some of the subtleties of the product. When you copy, Mariner Write copies the text and the style. To paste only the style go to Edit>Edit Special>Paste Style. You can even set a keyboard shortcut for this as well as any another menu command under the Keys tab in Preferences.
