How can I obtain a list of open files and ports for a currently-running application?
At certain points we might ask for a list of files and ports currently open by an application. This is likely because we would like to understand which files the program works with. This helps to provide some background information on how the program is running. Follow the steps provided below to obtain a list of open files and ports for a specific application:
Launch Activity Monitor
Activity Monitor is an application that provides statistical- and diagnostic information for apps that are currently running. There are two ways to launch Activity Monitor:
In your Mac's Applications Folder, open the Utilities folder. In the Utilities Folder, locate (and launch) Activity Monitor.
Perform a Spotlight search for Activity Monitor, and choose Activity Monitor from the list of results.
In Activity Monitor, display the list of open files and ports for the App
In the list of currently-open files, double-click the list item for the application you would like to obtain a list of open files and ports for. Double-clicking the list item will produce a new window.
In the new window that appears, click the tab Open files and ports.
The window should now show a large white text box. Copy all of the text from the text box (the easiest way to do this is click in text box--then, hold the command key and press the A key) and paste it into a new text document.
