How do I revert/downgrade back to MacJournal 5?
If for some reason, you have installed MacJournal 6, and you choose to revert to your previous version of MacJournal, you can do that using the folllwing instructions.
First, you need to download your previous version of MacJournal. MacJournal 5.2.8 can be downloaded from our download mirror.
After downloading the 5.2.8 DMG, make sure to remove any and all existing copies of the MacJournal application from your hard drive. Then double click to mount the 5.2.8 DMG, and drag the 5.2.8 application into your Applications folder.
Now that you have MacJournal version 5 on your machine, you'll need to direct MacJournal 5 to open your MacJournal 5 data file. Here is some background on how MacJournal 6 convernts your data:
MacJournal 5 and MacJournal 6 use different file formats. When you first open an existing MacJournal file with MacJournal 6, MacJournal first makes a copy of your MacJournal data file, and then converts a copy of the data file to be read by MacJournal 6. Once you open a file with MacJournal 6, you cannot open that file in MacJournal 5, You can, however, export the file to the MacJournal 5 format.
Let's say you are running MacJournal 5.2.8, and you have one main MacJournal document with the default file name (MacJournal data.mjdoc) and in the default location (~/Library/Application Support/MacJournal). When you launch MacJournal 6 for the first time, MacJournal makes a copy of "MacJournal Data.mjdoc". It re-names the copy to "MacJournal Data (5.2.8).mjdoc" and converts "MacJojrnal Data.mjdoc" to the version 6 file format.
"MacJournal Data (5.2.8).mjdoc" remains in the version 5 file format. You can rename this file if you'd like.
Once you launch MacJournal 5, open up "MacJournal Data (5.2.8).mjdoc" from the File menu. Choose Preferences from the MacJournal menu, click on the Advanced toolbar icon, and make sure "MacJournal Data (5.2.8).mjdoc" (or whatever you have renamed it) is set as your Main document.
That should complete the steps you need to take to revert back to MacJournal 5.
Note: to access the ~/Library/Application Support/MacJournal folder in Lion, just go to the Finder, click the Go menu, select Go To Folder and type in (or paste) "~/Library/Application Support/MacJournal", then click Go.
