In Mac OS, you can choose to export any document you wish to print to PDF (instead of to Paper). For example, any Web page viewed in Safari and any document in TextEdit can be exported to PDF.
Some of the programs we develop provide functionalities to save a document as a PDF directly from the Print dialog. This article will cover the basics; for more information related to specific programs, see documentation for the program.
To print a document in Mac OS to PDF, follow these steps:
Raise the print dialog. You can do this by selecting Print from the File menu or by holding the command key on your keyboard and pressing P.
Click the PDF button to display PDF workflow options. Clicking the PDF button will display a contextual menu containing a number of options. Most of the options will contain PDF in the name.
Select the option you would like to use. To save a document to Finder as a PDF, select Save as PDF.... To preview a document as a PDF (without saving it to Finder), select Open PDF in Preview.
